Sonya Galea is a warranted and fully qualified Systemic Family Therapist specialising in working with families and couples, as well as individuals experiencing difficulties in their relationships.
Sonya’s approach focuses on building a caring therapeutic relationship with her clients that ensures a safe therapeutic space is created. She values creativity and a highly collaborative client centred approach that fosters a safe exploration of the clients’ issues and a facilitation of communication inside the couple/ family dynamic. Through self-reflexivity and healthier communication patterns, individuals, couples and families are helped to understand more about their strengths and growth edges and invest in resources to help their relationships thrive.
Sonya graduated with an Honours Degree from the University of Malta and furthered her studies by gaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Systemic Family Psychotherapy and later on a Master’s degree in Systemic Family Psychotherapy. Sonya started her career working in the field of disability and inclusion and supporting students with learning difficulties, later on she gained experience as a Trainee Counsellor in State Schools. At present she works as a family therapist in a specialised service which supports individuals and families going through challenges such as couple and parenting issues, mental health problems, addictions and violence.
Sonya’s interests include working with families going through a difficult time, parenting issues, couple issues and separations, difficulties associated with addictions and trauma as well as mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety.
