Psychology is defined as the study of the mind and behaviour by the American Psychological Association (APA); the discipline embraces all aspects of the human experience. At Willingness, we deliver specific assessments and therapeutic interventions for children, adults and adolescents focusing on a range of difficulties including anxiety, behaviour issues, low mood, and relationship problems among others. Psychological tests and assessments are related components of a psychological evaluation. As explained by the APA, Psychologists use both types of tools to help them arrive at a diagnosis and a treatment plan.
Aside from psychological assessment and intervention, we use two main approaches: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Integrative Psychotherapy which is a term used to describe a therapy that draws on elements of more than one therapeutic approach, chosen to suit the individual’s needs. Within our integrative work, we draw upon knowledge and experiences in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT – an approach found to be effective for longstanding, personality problems), cognitive restructuring, and mindfulness training.
