I see patients with pelvic floor dysfunction ranging from very weak pelvic floor (mostly patients with continence problems and prolapse of pelvic organs )and lower back stability to very tense pelvic floor muscles (chronic pelvic pain, vaginissimus).
Following patient assessment I will provide treatment either through:
– Exercise (pelvic floor training) and core stability training (Pilates)
– Biofeedback (both for strengthening of the pelvic floor and relaxation)
– Electrotherapy (both for strengthening of the pelvic floor and relaxation)
– Perineal massage/tissue release with education to patient where appropriate
Most of the patients that come to me normally come with a very weak pelvic floor with loss of sensitivity and inability to contract the muscles. The minority of patients would come in with pelvic pain.
