Dr. Donatella Agius is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Malta, widely respected for her specialization in adult mental health and expertise in treating eating disorders across all age groups, including children and adolescents. She earned her MD from the University of Malta in 2010, establishing a strong foundation for her career in mental health care. Following her graduation, Dr. Agius pursued advanced training in psychiatry, completing her specialization in 2018 and gaining comprehensive experience across various psychiatric fields.
Currently, Dr. Agius serves as a Consultant Psychiatrist with Malta’s Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team, a vital component of the national mental health system that provides immediate, in-home support for individuals facing acute mental health crises. Her role involves working closely with high-risk patients who suffer from severe mental illnesses, stabilizing their conditions to help reduce the need for hospitalization.
In addition to her crisis work, Dr Agius leads Malta’s only dedicated eating disorder unit, located at Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek. There, she oversees a team that provides specialized care and support for individuals struggling with eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and Binge Eating Disorder. Her work has been instrumental in raising awareness about eating disorders and improving treatment resources within Malta.
