When asked to describe herself in 3 words, Dr. Marilyn says that she is ambitious, adventurous and outgoing. Her journey with Willingness began 4 years ago, and she’s been an essential member of the Willingness Team ever since!
We asked Dr. Marilyn a couple of questions about her experience at Willingness, and here’s what she had to say:
1. Can You Describe Willingness in 3 Words?
Dr. Marilyn: Dynamic, Welcoming, Diverse
2. What’s Your Role at Willingness? What Does it Consist Of?
Dr. Marilyn: I am a Senior Educational and Child Psychologist. I work with a diverse client population ranging from young children to adults. A part of my role is doing assessments for children/adolescents and adults as well. The client usually presents with a difficulty and my role is to identify their needs and where such needs could be originating from. Sometimes this leads to a diagnosis such as; Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia.
I also work with children and their families when there are issues related to behaviour. When the children are still very young (toddlers), I mostly work with the parents. Another part of my role is doing therapy with children and adolescents when they present with diverse issues such as; anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties in relationships with friends and family members as well as, anger management.
3. What Do You Like Most About Your Job at Willingness, Dr. Marilyn?
Dr. Marilyn: The support of the team is crucial as you are part of a multidisciplinary team and although you are working in private practice, you still feel that you are not alone but belong to a team.
4. Why Did You Choose Willingness?
Dr. Marilyn: I chose Willingness because it is the right place to grow as a professional and on a personal level as well. There are several opportunities to choose from and fresh ideas are always welcomed.
5. How Long Does it Take You to Get to Willingness?
Dr. Marilyn: It takes around 20 minutes
6. What would you say to a colleague who’s thinking about joining the Willingness Team?
Dr. Marilyn: If you want to work with clients in a supportive environment this is the place to do so. You have the opportunity to work with clients in a specific population since the clients that approach Willingness are quite diverse. If you have an area that you want to develop further and specialise, you will be provided with the opportunity to do so. You have a team to discuss with and to learn from.
7. What have you learnt since joining Willingness?
Dr. Marilyn: To be successful in what you do, you need to dedicate a lot of time to research and discussion which requires sacrifices. But if you work hard enough and believe in yourself you will be successful.
8. Does Willingness add to your practice? If yes, what?
Dr. Marilyn: Willingness has helped me to learn about new perspectives and to reflect about my practice. During the team meetings we discuss several topics and this always leaves me with good food for thought. I frequently go back to the conversations we would have had and it helps me to try and be a better professional.
