Our daily habits are ingrained, these are deeply-rooted and, therefore, it is not easy to realise that you have them. Good habits need to be included in your daily routine so that your mind, body and spirit are boosted with good habits.

1. Health

Most of us take health for granted, until we fall sick or have some sort of pain. Though a lot are becoming more aware of their health however, awareness around the topic of health is never enough. There are a number of good habits that must be discussed when we mention health. Healthy food and exercise are the most that we talk about. It is very important to start the day with a good breakfast, once I was told that there’s a saying which states ‘Eat your breakfast like a king’ and this means that it is very important to start your day with a good nutritious breakfast and also include fruit and vegetables in your daily intake.

However, to meditate and having a good sound sleep are also essential habits that one needs to consider when discussing health. Our life became such a rat race that the day is being prolonged and the night is becoming shorter, not in relation to the natural light obviously, but in relation to the hours that we dedicate to sleep and to relax. Ideally, you need to find time to meditate for at least 10 – 15 minutes daily. To meditate is to literally take time for oneself to stop, breathe and be in the present moment with yourself. You don’t need to be a Guru in Yoga or something but just to find some space in a quiet or peaceful corner in your home, or even outside, and breathe whilst being in the present moment. There are many videos which one can look up on the internet to help you meditate. Moreover, you need to have enough sleep to be in your best mental health state and hence, I encourage you to set the time that you know you need to be in bed to have a good sleep.

Along with these good habits, I must also mention journaling. Keep a journal and write positive notes and your gratitude. Even if you jot down some points, keep a note of positive thoughts and when needed, you can turn to the journal to remind you about these positive things that you experienced or which you are grateful for.

2. Attitude

Personal discipline and determination are the main reasons towards success. It is essential that if you have a goal or target that you would like to reach or achieve, you need to attribute determination and a lot of personal discipline. What plays an important role along with these, is the habit of the kind of attitude that one gives in the daily tasks and routines. Together with an optimistic attitude and a clear goal, success can be achieved even when one fails. Robert J. Collier stated that ‘success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out’.

3. Books

Reading; being it an online article, piece of news or a book, reading helps us to develop our thoughts and also helps in keeping our minds active. Studies found that one of the keys to avoid dementia and other mental health conditions, is to keep the mind active. If you want to widen your knowledge and develop new ideas, you need to read. As a result of the latter, you can also improve your conversations with others by also having an idea of what is happening around the world or to be able to discuss a particular topic. Reading as a good habit is definitely the answer to the above. Also, reading before getting into bed or just before one sleeps can help in sleeping better.
