The first Ngħidu Kelma of 2023 was focused on Working with Trauma in the Classroom, held at the Peace Band Club in Naxxar. There were two sessions held: a morning session between 9am-12pm hours and an evening session between 18pm and 21pm hours. This seminar provided an overview of trauma, looking at how it is now understood, its numerous aspects and types, and how active childhood trauma or past adverse childhood experiences may manifest themselves within the school setting.

Guidelines for best practices were provided, emphasizing practical and evidence-based strategies for cultivating trauma-informed classrooms, and promoting students’ resilience and healing from trauma. Participants got the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss case studies throughout the event. This event was hosted by Matthew Bartolo, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and one of the founding partners of the Willingness team, and Dr Ronald Zammit, a warranted Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.
